Today’s Feast
June 18, 2014- Jeremiah 43
Jeremiah Taken to Egypt
(In yesterday’s Feast the
date day should have read 17 and chapter should have read 42. Please forgive us if it caused any
problems.)
Please join with us sharing
God’s Word daily. We will spend about fifteen minutes a day praying and
reading every word in God’s Word in approximately three year. Gods Not Dead!
Dear Saints,
Today
we prayerfully continue our Feast reading the book of Jeremiah Chapter 43; “The
leaders carry the people to Egypt. (1-7) Jeremiah
foretells the conquest of Egypt. (8-13)
Verses
1-7 Only by pride comes contention, both with God and man. They
preferred their own wisdom to the revealed will of God. Men deny the
Scriptures to be the word of God, because they are resolved not to conform
themselves to Scripture rules. When men will persist in sin, they charge the
best actions to bad motives. These Jews deserted their own land, and threw
themselves out of God's protection. It is the folly of men, that they often
ruin themselves by wrong endeavours to mend their situation.
Verses
8-13 God can find his people wherever they are. The Spirit of
prophecy was not confined to the land of Israel. It is foretold that
Nebuchadnezzar should destroy and carry into captivity many of the Egyptians.
Thus God makes one wicked man, or wicked nation, a scourge and plague to
another. He will punish those who deceive his professing people, or tempt
them to rebellion.” - Matthew
Henry Concise.
Jeremiah warns the people to go to Egypt to live there (see
Jeremiah
43:1-7) they were insolent and called him a liar and because of their
unbelief they are sent to Egypt. God will set one wicked nation (see
Jeremiah
43:8-13) over another to accomplish His will; “12 I shall kindle a fire in the temples of the gods
of Egypt, and he shall burn them and carry them away captive. And he
shall clean the land of Egypt as a shepherd cleans his cloak of vermin,
and he shall go away from there in peace. 13 He shall break the obelisks
of Heliopolis, which is in the land of Egypt, and the temples of the
gods of Egypt he shall burn with fire.’”” Jeremiah 43:12-13 English Standard Version (ESV). Jesus wants you and I to teach our children the
basis for our faith (see Deuteronomy
4:9) to raise them up to give glory to God. “4 Fathers,
do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline
and instruction of the Lord.“ Ephesians 6:4 ESV. Good parents will bring their
children up secure (see 2
Timothy 3:15) in the knowledge that Jesus is sent by God to deliver
them from sin. Teach
them that Jesus (see 2
Timothy 1:5) is the most important legacy we have. Teach them about the good work God has
started in us (see Philippians
1:6) and make sure they understand Jesus will deliver them safely
from destruction. Do not allow your
child to be taken away to serve any other god.
