8 September 2011 – 1 John 1 & 1 John 2
Dear Saints, Today we prayerfully Feast in God's Word in 1 John 1 & 1 John 2. Today as we begin our feast we see that we have been preaching the truth. Knowing who Jesus is and being religious is not enough. You need that personal relationship with Jesus to gain salvation; “ The Word of Life” “1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete." 1 John 1- 4 (English Standard Version) ESV, We know that God is not willing that anyone should parish. In the end his word is a two edged sword. Some will come to him for salvation and others will reject his Word to damnation. “And 1 John 2 (English Standard Version) Christ Our Advocate 1My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. 1 John 2:1-6 Remember we hate the sin not the sinner. If the sinner repents of his sin and turns to God, Then washed by the blood of the Lamb and we have a new Saint. God's Word is truly a two edged sword. Those who believe him and become a friend to Jesus will have life eternal. Those who reject his offer of love and relationship are lost already. “The New Commandment” “7Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. 8At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. 9Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. 10Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. 11But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1st John 2:7 – 11 ESV. Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!” Psalm 143:10 ESV Your brother in Christ Robert Waters pick of the day; “[1] Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; [2] but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. [3] He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1 We continue to pray for the Saints, sinners & soldiers, Mothers and Dads, Sons & Daughters, Join us in prayer holding up those who need prayer. Many Saints pray to accept Jesus as their Savior and turn from sin. If you do, you need fellowship and so do we. Our salvation depends completely on God! We are the Saints that Jesus sacrificed his life to pay in full for our sin, when we repent and follow Jesus. We worship and fellowship in a Church that measures up to God's Word.
About 1st John
“This epistle is a discourse upon the principles of Christianity, in doctrine and practice. The design appears to be, to refute and guard against erroneous and unholy tenets, principles, and practices, especially such as would lower the Godhead of Christ, and the reality and power of his sufferings and death, as an atoning sacrifice; and against the assertion that believers being saved by grace, are not required to obey the commandments. This epistle also stirs up all who profess to know God, to have communion with him, and to believe in him, and that they walk in holiness, not in sin, showing that a mere outward profession is nothing, without the evidence of a holy life and conduct. It also helps forward and excites real Christians to communion with God and the Lord Jesus Christ, to constancy in the true faith, and to purity of life.” – Matthew Henry Concise The Feast
1 John 2 - “The apostle directs to the atonement of Christ for help against sinful infirmities. (1, 2) The effects of saving knowledge in producing obedience, and love to the brethren. (3–11) Christians addressed as little children, young men, and fathers. (12–14) All are cautioned against the love of this world, and against errors. (15–23) They are encouraged to stand fast in faith and holiness. (24–29)” – Matthew Henry Concise
God Bless you, Brother Mike
