July 10, 2014-Lamentations 1
How Lonely Sits the City
Please join with us sharing
God’s Word daily. We will spend about fifteen minutes a day praying and
reading every word in God’s Word in approximately three years. Gods Not Dead!
“15 Let
the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you
were called to peace. And be thankful. ” Colossians 3:15

Dear
Saints,
Today
we prayerfully continue our Feast by reading the book of Lamentations Chapter 1;
“The miserable state of Jerusalem, the just consequences of its sins. (1-11)
Jerusalem represented as a captive female, lamenting, and seeking the mercy
of God. (12-22)”
Lamentations Overview; “It is evident that Jeremiah was
the author of the Lamentations which bear his name. The book was not written
till after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans. May we be led to
consider sin as the cause of all our calamities, and under trials exercise
submission, repentance, faith, and prayer, with the hope of promised
deliverance through God's mercy.” - Matthew
Henry Concise.
The prophet speaks of Jerusalem, as a distressed female
voice (see Lamentations
1:1-11) and the LORD’s anger is just in dealing with
transgressions. The Lord is punishing
Jerusalem (see Daniel
9:16) because of her sins against God.
In the time of their end (see Lamentations
1:12-22) His people are struggling under the weight of their sin;
“21 “They heard my groaning, yet there is no
one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad
that you have done it. You have brought the day you announced; now
let them be as I am. 22 “Let
all their evildoing come before you, and deal with them as you have
dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my groans are
many, and my heart is faint.” Lamentations
1:21-22 English Standard Version (ESV). God is not willing for any people to die in
their sins (see John
3:16) all they need do is repent and ask Him for forgiveness in Jesus
name. “6 And I am sure of this,
that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day
of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 ESV. As Christians it is up to us to foil that loneliness
(see Matthew
5:14) by bringing God’s Word to a lost and dying world.
